A successful year for Enterprise Hub clients

2009 proved a busy year for the Enterprise Hub with over 20 business events, a series of client clinics and several product development workshops.

Recent success stories have seen two Hub clients receive a Technology Strategy Board Grant; Di8it were awarded a grant to carry out an initial feasibility study with a proposal for developing an innovative ‘cloud based’ networked computer system for the not-for-profit sector, while First Mile Networks’ bid to carry out a study to vastly improve broadband bandwidth across the region and the country was also viewed favourably by the scheme - the company was awarded the maximum grant available.

Hub client Labtech also recently received a significant SEEDA R&D development grant to commercialise technology for a screening device for cancer and other diseases which has emerged from work carried out at the University of Surrey. Another Hub client Conexall is busy raising funds from the Finance South East Commercialisation fund and from a series of private investors to bring to market a unified communications tool.

There was more success for Hub clients at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards; Out Post Sound won the Best New Business category, whilst Crunch.co.uk went home with the Innovation in Business accolade. Crunch.co.uk is the UK’s first combined online accounting system and accounting practice dedicated to freelancers, contractors and independent consultants working across all professions. The company has also announced that it’s secured significant high-profile investment from Bebo co-founder Paul Birch and Michael van Swaaij, chairman of Skype and a leading figure in Ebay Europe.

Drallim receives the Manufacturing Award

On the subject of awards, Drallim were shortlisted at the UK Manufacturer Awards Ceremony held at the Tower Hotel in London on November 12th, hosted by iconic racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart. Drallim were shortlisted in four categories, Leadership and Strategy, People, Skills and Productivity, IT in Manufacturing and SME Manufacturer of the year. On winning the Leadership and Strategy award, Drallim’s Managing Director, Dave Mooney said:

“We were delighted to win this award for a second year running, it reflects the superb team spirit we have here at Drallim and this result is an accolade to all who work here.”
