Projects - Creative Media Centre

Click to enlarge (opens in a new window)

We've redeveloped disused buildings in Hastings town centre into the Creative Media Centre - a prestigious set of serviced office suites and shared workspace in a supportive environment, backed by business services and networking events. The Centre helps creative businesses to start, expand and thrive by removing many of the barriers that frequently prevent small firms from being successful.

The Creative Media Centre is occupied by a great mix of firms from graphic designers to web developers, photographers, book publishers and Internet companies - all working as a thriving creative community and often collaborating on projects.

Timings

  • The first part of the Creative Media Centre opened in March 2004 in the refurbished former Boots building in Robertson Street.
  • The second part opened opposite in September 2005. Both were part-financed by the EU.

Further Information

The new building was designed by BBM Sustainable Design to be environmentally friendly, using local sweet chestnut wood, lambswool insulation and worktops made from recycled yoghurt cartons. The balconies on the upper floor have amazing views from the ruins of Hastings castle to the sea and the pier. The building also includes steps and a walkway connecting Robertson Street with Cambridge Road, improving pedestrian access around the town centre.

The new building was shortlisted for a RIBA Award in 2007.
